Cats don’t have to compete with any other animal and they are great to have around your house because of a few reasons. Cats are lots of fun, and they also rid the house of mice and similar pests. People often underestimate how helpful a kitty can be, and how much one can do to get rid of pests.
Cats are nocturnal animals. Do not be surprised if your cat is very active at night. If you are having a hard time sleeping because of your cats, close the door. This will keep them from attacking your toes.
Be sure you think about your cat’s ears when traveling. You may love loud music, bit it might be bothering your cat. Spare your cat’s sensitive hearing by keeping the volume down at all times.
A tablecloth for the feeding area can be quite useful. Some cats like removing food from their bowl and eating it beside their bowl. This leaves food on the floor outside their bowl that must be cleaned. To make clean up a breeze, use a place mat underneath the bowl or a piece of fabric. You’ll be able to pick it up easily and shake the excess food into the trash.
Understand that cats enjoy being elevated. Allow them the space they need to feel safe while checking their world out. If a cat tree is not in your future, providing a stable shelving unit with no small items on it will do very well. Providing a blanket or bed for your cat is an extra treat for them.
Use a brush on your cat regularly. This will help spread the natural oils within their fur while stimulating their skin’s blood flow. It also gets rid of shedding hair. Doing so reduces the occurrence of hairballs, which are a choking risk. It also benefits the cat’s stomach by reducing the animal’s need to clean itself.
Feed canned food to your cat. Even though the dry versions can be more cost-effective, canned cat food usually is more beneficial. There is more water, more fat and more protein in it. It is easier for older cats to chew. Speak with your vet to determine the proper course of action to take.
Anytime you get a new pet, you must introduce them to your cat slowly to help to avoid problems and let the cat get used to it. Keep them separated for at least two weeks, but let them sniff at each other under a closed door. They may still hiss and growl when they are in the same room together. Eventually, they become used to each other and are comfortable together.
When your cat starts urinating often or in odd places, it may be time to see the vet. Cats often do such things when suffering from urinary tract infections or other sorts of health issues. Some cheap antibiotics can get rid of some dangerous illnesses.
Make sure play time is an important part of your cat’s life. Playing is a very common activity shared by most animals. Kitties who are senior citizens may not be super energetic, but they still enjoy playing. Make sure you have fun with the cat whenever you can!
Litter Box
If kitty stops using its litter box, pay attention. There are a number of medical issues that can cause your cat to suddenly stop using their box. Kidney, bladder and infection issues can make this occur. If your pet stops using the litter box then see your veterinarian.
Try relocating your cat’s litter box if it’s refusing to use it. Make sure to put it in a quiet spot in your house. Try rooms that are less used, such as a basement or utility room.
Dogs will show a lot of enthusiasm through their tail when their owner comes back home. Cats move their tails for a very different reason. Tail-wagging in cats may indicate conflict. It’s especially important to keep an eye on your cat’s tail when you’re holding it. If you see it start to move, it’s time to put your pet down before you wind up getting scratched!
Keep your cat indoors as much as possible, close to home and near its owner. Cats that stay inside have been shown to live much longer than the ones that are allowed to roam your neighborhood. Outdoor cats face numerous predators and are at a higher risk of disease.
If your cat has been declawed, outdoors should be off-limits. Without claws, your cat is essentially defenseless against other animals. This is a dangerous situation for the cat. Cats should only be declawed if they’re going to be inside fulltime. Even with that, only their front claws should be removed. Leaving the back claws is no problem since they won’t scratch your furniture or floors.
Cats and dogs provide two different benefits to a home. A cat will seek out small rodents for you and love to be part of the family. Cats are very good at hunting. With these skills and admirable qualities, it is easy to see why cats are a desirable addition to the family.
