Cats are excellent pets for the whole family but they require some attention. A cat will bring joy to your household and also help you get rid of rodents and other pests. People often underestimate how helpful a kitty can be, and how much one can do to get rid of pests.
Don’t let your cat near drape cords. Don’t let the cat play with them since they can jump into them or play with them and get them around their neck if they have loops. This could cause injury or death. Secure your cords so they are out of the way and out of sight.
Female Cat
Spay your female cat. It is best to spay your cat, even if you want to keep it as an indoor pet. Your best bet is to have your female cat spayed.
Do not allow your cat to stay bored all of the time. Although you may believe that cats just lie around, this isn’t the case. They need their exercise. The unfortunate thing is that many owners of cats don’t realize this. Bored cats will quickly wreck your home or become obese. Give them time and space where they can exercise and toys they can play with. If you have an indoor cat, provide a kitty gym for them to climb on or a scratching post.
Look online for cat medicine. There are some times when this isn’t a good idea, like when you’re dealing with a pet related emergency. However, if your pet gets regular prescriptions for a chronic or ongoing issue, you can often save up to 50 percent by shopping online.
If you’re taking kitty on a road trip, don’t play loud music. You may love loud music, bit it might be bothering your cat. To keep your cat calm and collected over the course of your trip, keep the stereo low – or perhaps off entirely.
Make sure that you have a good tablecloth for your kitten. It’s a common practice for cats to eat their food on the side of their bowl. This means food spillage that you will have to clean later. A simpler way to do this is by getting a place-mat and placing it under their bowl. You can also cut some fabric to make a tablecloth that can be lifted, washed, or shaken over a trash can.
There needs to be set boundaries with your children and a new kitty. Explain where the cat is and isn’t allowed. Be sure that your children understand that an indoor cat must never be allowed outdoors. Setting the rules in advance will ensure your children understand.
Cats enjoy being high up. For very happy cats, give them a safe place where they can look around at their surroundings. You can have a cat tree or even a strong wall shelf. Install a small bed for your cat or a comfortable blanket.
Litter Box
You shouldn’t be training your cats for litter box use. Using the litter box is instinctual for cats, and they require no training. Contrary to what most people believe, it’s actually incorrect to rub a cat’s paw in the litter.
If your cats create messes near the litter box, don’t punish them. When this occurs, it is probably just a sign that the litter box wasn’t properly taken care of. If you punish your cat for this, it will fear you later in the future.
Get your feline acclimated to its carrier. The same response to punishment that you would expect from a dog does not apply to a cat. Encouragement is a much better strategy. Put their favorite toy and blanket in a carrier. Leave it somewhere they always go to. The cat will feel safe when it enters this carrier after a while. Once the cat is in the carrier, they will be so much easier to transport.
Drinking Fountain
Get your cat a drinking fountain. Cats out in the wild like to drink from running water, so they would like that at home too. Cats prefer to drink water that is streaming. In fact, some cats prefer running sink water to their own water bowls. A drinking fountain designed for your cat is the ideal solution to keep the cat happy.
Although cats may not be considered man’s best friend like dogs are, they can make excellent household pets. Cats are great hunters and can make kills more frequently than dogs at times. It’s easy to see why so many people have fallen for the company of cats.
