Cats are very loving and fun animals. Adopt one and you should soon find yourself spending many happy hours playing with it. In some cases, you need to instigate the fun on your own by introducing a new toy or game. A cat is a reliable, always-available source of amusement and love. Do as this article suggests and things will run smoother with your feline friend.
Groom your cat. You should comb and/or brush them on a regular basis. If yu do this quite often, it will help them stay clean. It can cut down on shedding and spitting up hairballs, too. In order to keep shed hair down to a minimum, plus have a beautiful cat, you must groom your cat regularly.
To help your old cat feel comfy, keep a tile that’s heated under their bed. Simply heat a terra-cotta tile in a 200 degree oven for 20 minutes. Wrap the tile in a towel and then put it under the bed. Switch towels every few hours if you need to.
You should not use products designed for other animals. Your cat will have a bad reaction to anything that has been specifically formulated for a dog. This particularly applies to flea products. Flea products that are intended for a dog can kill a cat. After getting the dog treated, keep the cat away for many hours.
Get a microchip for your cat. Indoor cats can slip out an open door. Although collars and tags are beneficial, some cats may even wiggle out of them. A microchip will hold the contact information to reach you and it’s only about as big as a piece of rice. They are impossible for your pet to lose, and most vets and shelters have equipment that can read these chips.
Be sure you show your cat lots of love. Cats give us a lot of love, and they deserve to be loved back. Without love, cats may not socialize with your family. They also like feeling important and a big member of the family.
Use a tablecloth underneath your cat’s dish. Some cats like removing food from their bowl and eating it beside their bowl. This can really make a mess, and you might have to spend significant time cleaning around your cat’s food bowl. Put a placemat under the bowl, or even some fabric so cleaning up is a snap.
You should not train your cat to use a litter box. This comes quite naturally to them and is not something that is learned. It’s not a good idea to rub your cats paws in litter. Some people think this is the way to train. It isn’t.
Never punish a cat for a mess outside of its box. Your cat probably did not use the litter box because it is not well taken care of. The cat will be fearful of you if you punish it.
Get your cat used to a carrier. You have to take a different approach to training a cat rather than a dog. Encouragement is a much better strategy. Give your cat a treat every time it does something well. Your cat will want to inspect the carrier and probably enjoy hiding inside. Transporting the carrier with your cat inside makes your next trip out much easier.
Make sure that your cat has a collar on with ID tags on it. This will be important even if you have an indoor cat. The lure of an open door or window is very attractive to your curious cat. Include your vet’s info as well as your own on the tags. This is also important if your cat has special medical needs.
There are many ways to enjoy time with your cat. While each cat responds differently to food, toys, and care, you can be sure that your efforts will not go unappreciated. A healthy cat will make your days much more enjoyable.
