Any drape cords should be hidden so the cat cannot grab hold of them. Cats love to play with hanging cords and this poses the threat of your cat hurting themselves or becoming entangled. This may seriously injure or kill your cat. It is highly recommended that you keep all drape cords pinned in such a way that the cat can’t see them so as to prevent any accidents.
If you have an old cat, you can help make its bed more comfortable by placing heated tiles underneath it. A terra cotta tile about a foot square is ideal. You can warm it with a 15-20 minute stop in your oven, set to approximately 200 degrees. Use an old towel to wrap it up safely before placing it beneath your cat’s favorite napping spot. Change it every couple of hours if desired.
You should not use products designed for other animals. Cats are not the same as dogs, and products meant for dogs can make cats very ill. Be very careful with the flea products you use. Dog products that are flea related can kill a cat. In fact, it is a good idea to separate your cat and dog for a few hours after your dog has taken flea medication.
If a cat is outdoors frequently, they need a collar that has a tag. The collar and tag will make it easier to find the cat if it gets lost. Ensure that you at least put the name of your cat and your personal phone number on this tag.
Cats can use their claws to destroy furniture and other parts of the house. You need to get a scratching post or a cat tower to prevent your cat from ruining your furniture. Give them some encouragement and let them know it is okay to scratch that. This will take some time but will be a valuable investment.
Cats are generally nocturnal. It is likely that they will want to play while you are sleeping. If your cats are busy keeping you awake early, just close your bedroom door. It also protects your toes from those crafty midnight pounces.
Most cats spend a large amount of time on grooming themselves. When the cat’s hair is longer, this could lead to hairballs. To assist your cat if it has this problem, you should get food that’s special. Some foods are in fact formulated specifically to reduce hairballs, and that is a good idea for your cat and you too.
While usually cats make great pets for kids, younger kids may be too rough with them. Teach your kid how to properly handle a cat. Show them what activities are appropriate and how to pick them up. Cats’ bones are more fragile than those of dogs, so they need gentler treatment.
If you cat is overly vocal, try to figure out exactly why he or she is making so much noise. Learning about your cat’s meows will be easier the longer you know her. She will let you know when her demands are for food or when you need to let her out. Watch their cues to learn more about them.
Cats have good points that dogs do not possess. A cat is an excellent hunter and almost always makes the kill, sometimes much easier than the dog. With these skills and admirable qualities, it is easy to see why cats are a desirable addition to the family.
