Training a dog can seem hard, confusing or overwhelming for a person that has never gone through it. You can easily be lead to information overload because of all of the resources available to new trainers. Here are some smart tips to get you started with effective puppy training.

Give your puppy time to be okay with a crate by taking the training one small step at a time. After they become used to each individual step and do not mind going inside the crate, try shutting the door and giving them treats with the door closed. In the beginning it is important to only leave the dog in the crate for a few seconds. After a while you will be able to leave them in the crate for longer amounts of time. If the dog becomes upset, then you need to take a step back and slow down the training.

TIP! When crate training your new puppy, take it in small manageable steps so the animal can become accustomed to the changes easily. Eventually they will become comfortable with the crate and you can then try to shut the door to the crate.

Dogs have a tendency to zone in on one particular thing until something else grabs their attention. Your dog can learn to focus less and less, except for your commands, by using repetition.

Do not tie up your dogs too closely. This is due to the fact that they could become tangled in each others cords and end up injuring themselves when trying to get free. If the dogs are different sizes, it could be even worse. A small dog could easily choke to death if it were to get too tangled up with a larger breed.

It’s important to avoid inadvertently encouraging inappropriate behavior if you want your dog to learn. This means you must not reward your dog with attention or treats for doing something you don’t want it to do. If the dog jumps at you, don’t rub it’s head.

Give your dog a clear verbal cue that means “yes” to aid in training. “Yes” is the perfect word to show dogs approval before giving a treat.

Training a dog to roll over is a pretty simple task, just make sure to have a few treats handy! You can have your dog sit or roll over. Next, hold a treat near the floor on one side of his head, slowly bring the treat up and over the dogs head to the other side. Ideally, your dog will use his nose to follow the treat, rolling his whole body in the process. Say the command, “roll over” when he rolls over. It may take a while to get to this point, but you will be pleased if you stick with it. It’s an impressive trick.

Whenever you’re training your dog, be sure and use the same vocal tone when giving commands. This tone tells the dog that you mean business and that they need to obey. It also allows your dog to realize the differences in each command.

TIP! Include plenty of physical activity in your dog’s training routine. Almost all dogs have short attention spans.

If you want to be successful in house training an animal, make sure that you stick to a strict schedule for feeding times and elimination times. This will give you the opportunity to understand when your dog needs to go to the bathroom. Then he will become practiced at waiting until the right time.

You always want to make certain your dog has good leash manners. Not only is this safer for the dog and easier on your body, such a frequent activity mandates good self-control and reinforcement of the chain of command from training.

Be patient when training a dog. You will not get frustrated or mad and neither will your pet. Remember that dogs really want to please their owners, but they got confused because we speak a different language that they do not understand.

These tips have hopefully given you some insight and usable suggestions. These suggestions can help you train your dog, and help you love him or her more.
